Criteria and Evaluation
Evaluation Criteria
The criteria for the acceptance of a proposal are:
- scientific excellence;
- feasibility (hence, it is strongly recommended that any proposal is discussed with an ETSF scientist before submission);
- (for commercial projects only) likely impact of the project in the final research result or product.
Evaluation Process

For collaborative projects
Proposals are evaluated by two different panels:
- an External Scientific panel, consisting of independent experts in the field, experimentalists and theoreticians, from academia and industry, from Europe and the USA.
- an Internal panel, according to feasibility, consisting of the ETSF Beamline coordinators.
- The Internal panel evaluates feasiblility of the proposals. The feasibility report, sent to the External Scientific panel, is indicative only.
- The External Scientific panel recommends a priority order for proposals, according to the evaluation criteria stated above.
- The ETSF Steering Committee allocates beamline time to as many proposals as possible within its resources and following the ranking of the External Scientific panel, and inform proposers of the outcome of the call.
For training
Proposals are evaluated by:
- an Internal Training panel, according the evaluation criteria stated above and feasibility. The Internal panel is constituted by the ETSF Beamline coordinators.
- The Internal Training panel evaluates the admissibility of the proposals, according to the evaluation criteria stated above.
- The ETSF Steering Committee approves proposed training events, and inform proposers of the outcome of the call.
